Meaning of Literature and Creative Expressions
Literature is defined as works of art which are highly meaningful in both content and form which represent the expressions of human experiences drawn from life. Literature is also seen as an embodiment of written or spoken words which includes poems, essays, plays, novels, short stories, music, dance, that allows a person to express ideas in a creative way. Literature helps people to understand life, culture, education and preserves traditions and history.
Creative Expression on the other hand simply means the freedom to express ideas and emotions in various forms. Also, creative expression is all about using artistic forms to explore, interpret, and communicate the human experiences in plain facts or information. It encourages originality, imagination, self-confidence, and boldness.
Literary Genres:
Literary genres are various literature that groups different literary works based on their style, form, content and purpose. They help readers and writers understand what to expect from a piece of writing. Here, writers choose from a wide range of genres in literature to suit their personal interests and writing styles. A genre of literature is a classification that describes the content, tone, and style of a writer's work. Understanding the different genres of literature can help a person to decide what type of genre to use as a writer.
Genres of Literature can be classified into three which are Prose, Drama and Poetry
Prose
Prose is identified as a written text that supports the flow of conversation in sentence and paragraph form as opposed to verses and stanzas in poetry. The writing of prose employs common grammatical structure and a natural flow of speech. Prose as a genre can be broken down into a number of subgenres including both fiction and non-fiction works. Examples of prose are news, biographies, novels, short stories, plays and fables.
Drama
Drama simply means the use of creative expression using dialogue and performance to explain human conflict in reality that is performed on stage and which traditionally comprises five acts. Drama is broken down into four subgenres which are comedy, melodrama, tragedy and farce.
Poetry
Poetry is a style of writing that can be written in verses. Poetry is known for bringing out the emotional responses from readers through its melodic tone with the use of creative language by the writer. Poetry includes sonnets, psalms and folk songs and can be fiction or nonfiction.
It is important to note that Literature is any collection of written work, that is used for writings considered to be an art form, especially novels, plays, and poems. It includes both print and digital writing; while
Creative expression is any process that lets us take an idea or feeling and bring it to life in a way that we can share with others. These processes include visual art (like drawing or painting), music, writing, poetry, or dance.
